Pre-Employment Paperwork

Students who are US citizens and who have not previously worked on campus must come to the Student Employment Office or Financial Aid to complete the necessary forms in order to legally start work on campus.

International Students must complete their paperwork in the Office of International Taxation.  The steps necessary to be approved to work on campus are delineated at International Student Processing.

For US citizens, the forms you must complete are:

For the I-9, if you use an original document other than the Social Security card and photo I.D (i.e., original passport or original birth certificate); we will still need to see a copy or fax of your Social Security card or other documentation so that we can enter your name exactly as it appears on your card into the database. The government requires that we enter your name into our database exactly as it appears on the card.  When our database is transmitted to the government, the name must match their records. This name information does not hold up the employment process, though.

If you did not bring your original I-9 document(s) to campus with you, and if you must start working before you could receive it in the mail, you must present a receipt for the application of one of the I-9 document(s). We suggest applying for a free replacement Social Security card at any Social Security Administration office.  You may present the receipt that you applied for a new social security card to Student Employment which will allow you to start work right away.  The office closest to campus is only 10-15 minutes away and located at 1834 W. Cary Street past Carytown.

For more information on obtaining a replacement social security card, view the directions and the bus schedules to the Social Security Administration.

If you have any questions about finding a job on campus or completing your forms, please call the Student Employment Office at 804-289-8737.
